Although the majority of Stefano Torossi’s extensive musical catalog from 1959 to the present is in the album or long play format, he has also done a couple dozen 45s, most of them released initially in the 1960s on labels including Carosello, CBS, Costanza Records, Durium, Italfon, Parade, and RCA.

The third installment of this overview of 45 singles involving Stefano Torossi showcases five more B-sides he either performed on or wrote between 1962 and 1968.

In 1962, Stefano Torossi appeared on at least four 45 singles: two playing double bass with pop group The Flippers and two with fellow composer Bruno Cassia. These last two singles feature pop singer Tony Del Monaco on one and Orchestra da Ballo “Italfon” on the other.

The Flippers “Dinah” 1962

Among the five 45 singles Stefano Torossi recorded as a member of The Flippers between 1960 and 1962 is “Dinah,” the B-side of 1962 release “Bombolo.”

“Dinah” is also included in two later compilation albums by The Flippers, the At Full Tilt (1981) LP and the 2-CD Flashback – i grandi success (2002), both released on RCA and usually easy to find at music resellers and auction sites like eBay Worldwide.

Tony Del Monaco “45 Giri di Twist” 1963

In 1963, Stefano Torossi appeared on “45 Giri di Twist,” the second of at least three singles he did with Tony Del Monaco.

Tony Del Monaco “Siamo amici” 1964, featuring Ennio Morricone

Tony Del Monaco and Stefano Torossi also joined Ennio Morricone and a full orchestra on “Siamo amici,” a single that features lyrics by Prosaico (an alias of Sergio Jacquier) and Del Monaco. The exact year of release is unclear but in 1964 it was included on the Cocktail di canzoni compilation on RCA.

In 2000, “Siamo amici” was also included on Ennio Morricone’s Ultimate Italian Pops Collection, a 2-CD Japan-only release by BMG.

I Balordi “Diamoci la mano” 1968

In 1968, Stefano Torossi and Sergio Ricci composed both sides of I Balordi’s 1968 single “Fateli tacere,” including the B-side “Diamoci la mano.”

More Music from Ennio Morricone featuring Edda Dell’Orso

Tony De Monaco’s “Siamo amici” is the only time Stefano Torossi and Ennio Morricone worked on a project together. However, Torossi and the vocalist most closely associated with Morricone, Edda Dell’Orso, collaborated on the movie theme from the soundtrack of L’età del malessere (The Age of Malaise) released in 1968.

Besides doing the main theme on the 1968 General Music LP, Edda Dell’Orso does a vocal-only version worth seeking out that first appeared on Hexacord’s outstanding Al Cinema con Edda Dell’Orso CD in 2002 and then in 2010 on Verita Note’s limited edition CD reissue of L’età del malessere–which features nineteen additional alternate stereo mixes and film versions not offered on the original LP.

At this time, the two tracks featuring Edda Dell’Orso are not available online. However the two CDs they appear on can usually be found at music sites including Discogs. The 2010 reissue is also available from Amazon Japan and CD Japan, among other places.

L’età del malessere (The Age of Malaise) (1968) reissue (2010) back

In 2014, Italy’s Dagored label reissued a pair of early 1970s Ennio Morricone albums in vinyl that this music fan recommends highly, Le foto proibite di una signora per bene (Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion) (1970) and Veruschka (1971), each showcasing the vocals of Edda Dell’Orso.

Veruschka (1971), a 2-LP soundtrack produced by Gianni Dell’Orso, the brother-in-law of Edda Dell’Orso, was also reissued in vinyl by Dagored, again limited to 500 copies.
