In 1999, Luca Proietti released Geoglot: Universal Language for Italy’s Rai Trade, an album that explores how various artificial languages have been created over the years in an attempt to create a universal language that connects all people. The title of the album, Geoglot, is an example of one such language (Esperanto, another, is perhaps the most famous). Stefano Torossi, produced the CD, the second of six full length albums they made between 1996 and 2011.

The ten track album opens with Luca Proietti’s “V.U.E.” This was also the first track the musician-composer completed.

When asked about it recently, Proietti commented:

The track most special to me is V.U.E., because that is the first track that I completed and that Stefano took to Rai Trade to listen. The result was they proposed to make a whole album.

He also revealed the meaning of the acronym “V.U.E”:

V.U.E. stands for Violent Unknown Event. The acronym came from a 1980 Peter Greenway movie titled “The Falls.” In the movie, many of the survivors of this “Violent Unknown Event” have been gifted with new languages. This idea of speaking new languages after a shock gave me the inspiration for the title of the song.

The remaining tracks on Luca Proietti’s Geoglot: Universal Language include “Mundion,” “Nadsat,” “Phonaritmo,” “Moja,” “Icariana,” “Lingua lunare,” “Gibberish,” “Acquaslang,” and “Argot.”

In addition to “V.U.E.,” Lilana Richter appears on several tracks, with keyboard player-guitarist Luca Proietti also providing vocals as well as using a Vocoder and vocal synthesizer on the CD release.

After the initial release of Geoglot: Universal Language, an expanded version with extra tracks, using a slightly different cover, was issued by Rai Trade, a record label based in Italy that is focused on music library and soundtrack releases. Unfortunately, it seems both versions are now out of print.

Producer Stefano Torossi has worked with Luca Proietti on six full length albums, four for Rai Trade (Geoglot: Universal Language, Urban World (2003), WM Global Music (2004), and World Windows (2007)), and one apiece for BMG/RCA (World Vibrations (1996)) and Deneb Records/Flippermusic (Vocal Emotions (2011), with Valeria Nicoletta).

When asked about working with Luca Proietti on Geoglot: Universal Language, Torossi shared:

The idea was his, and also the titles. And the LP is one of our most successful. Proietti is one of the very best musicians I have worked with.

At this time, it seems that all four of Luca Proietti’s full length albums on Rai Trade, released between 1999 and 2007, are out of print. This also applies to their first effort for BMG/RCA.

Despite being out of print, a few tracks from the first five albums of Luca Proietti, all produced by Stefano Torossi, are currently available online.

A pair of cuts from Luca Proietti’s 2004 WM Global Music CD on Rai Trade, “Zafra” and “Amina,” are currently located on Proietti’s MySpace page. A third, “Dindana,” was recently uploaded to SoundCloud.

Released in limited numbers, the first five albums Luca Proietti made with Stefano Torossi are near impossible to find. To date, none have been reissued in digital format.

Valeria Nicoletta, Luca Proietti, and Stefano Torossi’s Vocal Emotions Reissued in 2015

Luca Proietti and Stefano Torossi’s sixth and most recent album, Vocal Emotions (2011), with vocalist Valeria Nicoletta has recently been reissued by Deneb Records’s parent label, Flippermusic, under the title Emotions (2015).

Both of these digital-only releases are available from retailers such as iTunes and Amazon, as well as directly from Flippermusic.

Luca Proietti, Valeria Nicoletta, and Stefano Torossi’s “Ave Maria” and “Mira il tuo popolo,” arranged by Luca Proietti featuring Nicoletta and her sister Tina, is used in the compilation Capocolonna luce dell’anima, released by Anna Cynthia Agostino in 2014.

Luca Proietti and Stefano Torossi’s collaborations have been used on numerous other compilations, including “Mafia Woman” on Costanza Records’s Musica per commenti sonori Series in 1999 (reissued in digital format for the first time by Deneb Records in 2015 under the title Planet Woman: Documentary – Drama – Lifestyle) and at least three for Rai Trade.

In 2015, individual tracks from Luca Proietti and Stefano Torossi, with Valeria Nicoletta, were also licensed by ExtraBall Records (“Exotic Sahara” on World Music Tour: Hypnotizing Arabic Musicspheres and “Stroboscope” on Pop to the Top: Fresh Dynamic Songs to Get in a Positive Mood), Lounge Music Cocktail (“Dance tarantella” on Music for Cooking: Delicious Recipes To Surprise, Vol. 1 – La Pizza Italiana), and Relaxing Music (“Vocal Emotions”).

The idea was to mix together the influence of various parts of the world. The project is meant to be used as an underscore for television shows talking about travel, nature, etc.
