Federico Arezzini and Stefano Torossi’s Musica per commenti sonori – Tangos (1998) Costanza Records (Reissue Deneb Records 2014)

In, Federico Arezzini and Stefano Torossi released Musica per commenti sonori: Tangos on CD for Costanza Records, reissued by Deneb Records in digital format for the first time in winter 2014 under the title Tangos: World Music – Argentina – Documentary. The new release includes the same dozen tracks but with a different running order and several title changes.

Compositions on the digital reissue include “Latin Tango,” “Jazz Tango,” “Moorish Tango,” “Melancholic Tango,” “Virtuoso Tango,” “Homeless Tango,” “Farewell Tango,” “Uneasy Tango,” “Tango on the Road,” “Tango of Regrets,” “Balcanic Tango,” and “Standard Tango.”

The opening track of Federico Arezzini and Stefano Torossi’s Tangos: World Music – Argentina – Documentary, “Latin Tango,” originally called “Etnico Jazz,” is currently available on YouTube:

The album is the latest collaboration between Arezzini and Torossi, two composers who have made at least three full length albums as well as appearing on numerous compilations and reissues on labels including Costanza Records, Deneb Records, ExtraBall Records, Primrose Music, Rai Trade, and Warner Chappell.

Federico Arezzini and Stefano Torossi’s “Jazz Tango” (aka “Tango Jazz”) is here:

At the beginning of the year, Deneb Records reissued Federico Arezzini and Stefano Torossi first full length album, Metropolitan Action: 1980s – Cop Show – Soundtrack, an 18-track album initially released in 1996.

None of the Metropolitan Action album cuts are online currently although a majority of the compositions of Federico Arezzini and Stefano Torossi for Avant-garde their one-off release for Warner Chappell and Fonit Cetra in 2000 are (although the album itself has only been released in CD and is currently out of print and near-impossible to find).

Previously, the two Italian composers collaborated on several tracks found on compilations like Musica per commenti sonori: Religion and Paranormal (1998) and Musica per commenti sonori: Check Up (1999), both on Costanza Records.

They also worked together on four cuts from Primrose Music’s Little Ones: Children & Cartoon and eleven cuts combined from two collections from another influential Italian label, Rai Trade: Problemi sociali and Sport & Travel, both released around 1999.

These Rai Trade compilations will be looked at more in-depth in future articles on this site including an upcoming interview with David Nerattini, who composed eight tracks with Stefano Torossi on Sport & Travel as well as “Existential Torment” on Musica per commenti sonori: Check Up. This last acid jazz-flavored track, a personal favorite, is one of the very few Torossi compositions to use both sampling and scratching. Stay tuned as permission to post some of these tracks is currently being sought.

Federico Ferrandina, a composer, arranger, musician, and conductor recorded two full length albums with Stefano Torossi, Guitarra: Acoustic, World Music, Folk (2009) for Primrose Music and Fabulous Sixties: Make Love Not War (2010) for Deneb Records.

December ExtraBall Release Includes Four Torossi Selections

The final new compilation is Peaceful World: The Ambient and New Age Music Selection, slated for 1 December by ExtraBall Records. This collection features four tracks by Stefano Torossi and some of his most frequent collaborators including “Geisha” and “Sakyamuni” with Leonardo Svidercoschi and Ari Takahashi. Antonio Sechi and Stefano Torossi’s “Sunbeam” and Claudio Gizzi and Stefano Torossi’s “The Original Sin” are also included.

Currently, none of the four tracks on this upcoming December release are available online. However, this site plans to take a closer look at the two full length albums Leonardo Svidercoschi, Ari Takahashi, and Stefano Torossi made for Primrose Music: XXI Century (2008) and Megasound (2009). Each of the albums has just recently been reissued as a digital download and is now available at major online music retailers in most markets.

Coming Soon: Piero Montanari’s Ulysses (1995) Primrose Music, produced by Stefano Torossi

Next up, Piero Montanari’s Ulysses: A Traveller Through Time and Space, an album produced by Stefano Torossi and released on Primrose Music in CD in 1995 and reissued as a download in 2009. Known these days for his continued work in the soundtrack genre, Montanari appeared on three of this author’s favorite 70’s library albums: Music In Rilievo, a 1972 compilation from Italy’s tiny Beautiful Black Butterfly label that features the Montanari Band’s “Zoo Sound” and “Frogs In Love,” his Climax LP for Octopus Records in 1973, with Roberto Conrado, and Bass Modulations for the same Italian label also in 1973.

In 2009, Primrose Music also reissued 1970s Pop Maniacs, a compilation featuring a virtual who’s who of Italian composers including Alessandro Alessandroni, Gerardo Iacoucci, Piero Montanari, Nino Rapicavoli, Giuliano Sorgini, Amedeo Tommasi, and Stefano Torossi. This was first released in CD in 1999. Among the dozen original compositions by Piero Montanari on the album (plus four remixes!) is “Saigon Night.”

A video for Piero Montanari’s “Space Era” from his 1999 album Digital Age, produced by Stefano Torossi using his Melodicon alias, was recently uploaded to the Net:
