Criminale, Vol. 4 – Violenza! has just been released as a limited edition LP-CD bundle and digital download by Penny Records, the digital imprint of Italy’s legendary Flippermusic family of record labels. The album showcases music from library and soundtrack luminaries that includes Alessandro Alessandroni, Massimo Di Cicco, Paolo Ferrara, Gerardo Iacoucci, Nino Rapicavoli, Stelio Subell, and Joel Vandroogenbroeck, among others.

The eighteen 1960s and 1970s-era tracks compiled by David Nerattini come from the vaults of Flipper, like the three earlier installments in the series Criminale, Vol. 1 – Paura (2013), Criminale, Vol. 2 – Ossessione (2013), and Criminale, Vol. 3 – Colpo Gobbo. Violenza! and Colpo Gobbo are available 26 May in most markets–a digital download is already available at iTunes, Amazon, and most other major online music sellers.

Among standout cuts on Criminale, Vol. 4 – Violenza! is “Fuorilegge,” a composition by Sandro Brugnolini, Massimo Catalano, Franco Tamponi, and Stefano Torossi that first appeared on Tamponi’s Un volto una storia LP released on Flowerin in 1972–and reissued as a digital download in 2011 by Pinball Music. Featuring a full orchestra, the large scale production was arranged by Tamponi, who also conducted the piece in the studio.

Composers Daniela Casa, Stelvio Cipriani, and Piero Montanari each have a pair of compositions on Criminale, Vol. 4 – Violenza! The Montanari tracks, “Lupin” and “Saigon Night,” are also on 1970s Pop Maniacs (1999), a Primrose Music album by Sandro Brugnolini, Franco Tamponi, and Stefano Torossi that contains a dozen Montanari originals plus four remixes.

Remigio Ducros has three selections on Criminale, Vol. 4 – Violenza!, including “Baterasso,” “Lunedi ore 7.45,” with Massimo Catalano, and “Canottaggio.” This last track was also on Le Sport, Vol. 1, an LP released in 1971 on the Union label.

Golden Fingers: The Best Solos Collection Ever (2015) Decibel Music

Stefano Torossi has a dozen tracks on six digital albums by Lounge Music Cocktail, including a trio released in May, all part of their Music for Cooking series of compilations. Besides compilations, Stefano Torossi has also released a full length album in 2015, Planet Woman: Documentary – Drama – Lifestyle on Deneb Records. The nineteen tracks feature Torossi with a cast of familiar musical partners including Federico Arezzini, Pierluigi Campili, Francesco Demegni, Fabrizio Fornaci, Alessandro Forti, Claudio Gizzi, David Nerattini, Luca Proietti, Letizia Romeo, Marco Vannozzi, and Alessandro Varzi. This 2015 digital album was originally issued by Costanza Records in 1998 in CD, part of their Musica per commenti sonori series.

And one last cut from Criminale, Vol. 4 – Violenza! by saxophonist-composer Enzo Scoppa, who along with Sandro Brugnolini, was one of the founding members of the Modern Jazz Gang in 1958.

Criminale, Vol. 4 – Violenza! Compiler David Nerattini with La Batteria

Besides selecting the tracks on Criminale, Vol. 4 – Violenza!, Flippermusic’s David Nerratini is involved in several music-related projects including as a drummer and co-composer on La Batteria’s eponymous debut album.
