When they got home from the park they all had a late dinner and then after Sterling left, Mortimer gave Cassandra a book. He told her it was her Mother’s diary and he said he hoped she would understand why he hadn’t given it to her before.
Cassandra hadn’t even known that her mother had kept a journal. Knowing that her father had hidden it from her made her very curious to know what was inside.
She was still reading when the sun rose the following morning. Over the next few days Cassandra spent every spare moment reading Bella’s diary.

Within the week the diary was already proving to have a positive effect on Cassandra. In fact she had a job interview today. There was an opening for a new science teacher at the high school. She was hoping to get out of the lab and this teaching position seemed the perfect opportunity.
Reading her mother’s diary had pointed out to Cassandra just how isolated her life had become and she had decided that this would be the first step towards changing that.

Cassandra knew that her mother had been a remarkable woman but reading her diary had given Cassandra new insight into who her mother really was.
Bella had always chosen to live each moment to the fullest. She had never let a small setback stop her from reaching for her dreams. Though she planned for the future she never let it get in the way of living for today.

Thinking about her mother |
|
Sure there had been hardships along the way, but her mother had always believed that things would work out.
Cassandra tried to emulate her mother’s positive outlook and took another calming breath as she headed out to the interview.
"Wish me luck, mom." She said as she climbed into the car.

"I did it! I got the Job!" Cassandra was ecstatic and couldn’t help but shout her good news to the world as soon as she got home.
She jumped up and down a few times feeling years younger and then she squealed with delight and rushed into the house,
"I can’t wail to call Sterling and tell him the news!"

Success! A new Job for Cassandra |

Cassandra didn’t even notice her father in his garden tending his tomatoes.
Mortimer chuckled to himself, "Yes, things are finally going right for her."
Then he looked at his little plants and said "I think we’ll have
fresh tomato salad at the wedding."
